Description

Well, the idea of this picture is simple: always be ready to destroy any obstacle or else it will destroy you.

It's pictured under the inspiration of the song «Monster» by Skillet. Or, more specifically, under the AMV, in which it sounds (which at one time was created by my friend xSpeedofSound, for which her my thanks). I have always loved this song, but with the video of «Felidae» it has become for me on a 20% cooler :] However, those who don't know this product is a warning: «Felidae» is not a children's cartoon, it's a thriller-horror animated movie. And if you can not stand the sight of blood, don't even think to look that video.
Yeah, no doubt I'm a strange one being a fan of such different cartoons as «My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic» & «Felidae». Of course, would like to see the world as it is depicted in MLP, however at first have to go through the way of the story from «Felidae»...

As a Dash fanboy, I will do my best not to be biased in my critique...

That being said, I love the composition of this piece. The contrast between Rainbow's bright mane/tail/coat against the dark sky as well as her placement vs. the placement of the volcano and the eruption up top appear very well-planned.

While the concept of conquering one's obstacles, be them personal or external, is used rather frequently, I believe Rainbow Dash was a prime candidate for a piece such as this. Seeing her somehow overcoming a force of nature so great as a volcano is something I have not seen before, so I'd say this is still fairly original.

The coloring and shading of the background looks awesome; I especially like the style in which the clouds and eruption were done. The line work and coloring for Dash herself are also very precise and show-accurate, but her outline could use some cleaning up. This is especially true, since her colors are so bold against the background.

Altogether, this makes for a very memorable drawing. Listening to Skillet's "Monster," which you listed as an inspiration, further enhanced my experience as a viewer. I think this is a very well-executed and enjoyable piece of MLP:FIM artwork.
